Now that Sabrina has a new place, I need to get a new roommate to afford my place. Feel free to tell your friends.

Sabrina has a new apartment!

Everyone give three cheers to [info]vintage_fish. It took months and many attempts and lots of patience.

She's packing and moving right now.

Everyone can start planning their respective parties.

I need to hit the mailing lists with my "roommate wanted" spam and try to get someone placed as soon as I can.

If you know of someone who needs a room near downtown Mountain View, please drop me a note.

Off to Chicago

I'm off for Chicago to see [info]ladypoetess and hang out at WindyCon. I'll be back on Monday.

Actually, I won't be around much the next couple of weeks. Just after I get back home, I'm going to a training thing for work.

LiveJournal.app for iPhone!

The LJ app for the iPhone that I mentioned the other day just became available in the app store. It is a lot more convenient to post using this new app.

My friends are awesome

The past couple of weeks have been political-tastic for my kind of humor. Behold:

From Meggan:
* Ammend this!

From [info]kadyg:
* Awesome Obama image macro.

From [info]une_allumeuse:
* "So wrong!"

From: [info]ladypoetess:
* "Sarah Palin = Star Wars, Hillary Clinton = Star Trek"

Not really a friend, but from Laughing Squid:
* "McCain be Old"
* "Tiny Fey as Sarah Palin"

Don't remember who linked me to this:
* "Read my lips"

Work spoils us so hard.

I just happened to go to the main campus to run and errant and there was a country rock band, Poor Man's Whiskey, playing on the patio and the cafe was serving German food outside. I had so much fun.

One of my coworkers called me during lunch. I said "Hold on, there is a concert going on. Let me get somewhere where I can hear you." So awesome that I could say that at work.

I bought the band's CD, already ripped it, and now I'm listening to it. Now, I kind of wish I was able to have a bigger party, I would totally get them to play my party.

LiveJournal for iPhone

So, part of my excuse for not posting much is that I'm not at my computer very much. I've been super-social recently. I'm only home long enough to do chores, watch my shows, and sleep.

If I had a better way to LJ from my iPhone, I would probably post more.

Just today, I discovered LiveJournal Mobile and [info]cosysoftware_en made a nice LJ app that is waiting for approval from Apple.

Best phone call ever

Desk phone: Ring Ring!
Cell phone: (playing Captain Hammer ringtone).

This is a signal to me that someone is calling me with my "public" number that I publish on my web site and resume and such things. That number hides my real number and rings all of my phones at the same time.

I pick up the desk phone.

Automated voice: You have a call from an unknown number, hit one to accept the call, hit two to shoot flames into the caller's ear.

I hit one this time.

Me: Hello, this is me.
Woman who doesn't sound like she speaks English too well: Hello?
Me: Yes, start talking, what do you want?
Woman: Do you own the domain vee-eh-lis-cafe-dot-com? Valiscafe.com?
Me: Yes.
Woman: Do you have a number I can send a fax to you.
Me: No.
Woman: (incredulous voice) You don't have a number I can send a one page fax to?
Me: No, who uses a fax machine anymore, just send me email.
Woman: (confused) Ohokgoodbye.

Click.

The fax machine was this thing that was only useful for a few years until the internet provided a better way of sending documents and images. I have no fucking clue how the fax machine manages to still hang around twenty years after it's obsolescence.

I also don't own the following obsolete things: bag phone, car phone, walkman, calculator watch, pager, wall phone, cordless phone, whiteout, typewriter, vcr, video tapes.

The Post-party Recap

Last weekend, I planned and hosted a birthday party for Diana.

I think a good time was had by all.

We started the festivities by kidnapping the birthday girl and taking her to play laser tag. I got in two rounds and it was a lot of fun sniping at 10 year olds. The old dude who nailed us in the back over and over was kind of annoying, though.

We then met up at my place for grilled burgers and cocktails.

Dan was an excellent co-host taking over meat cooking duties.

Melon Balls was, as usual, the sweet fruity cocktail of choice. I made 2 pitchers the green drink.

(Note to self: buy more vodka and light rum)

We ate the rest of my favorite jello shot recipe and a bunch of the lime/brandy jello shots which were surprisingly good.

I tried to keep the birthday girl to a 2 drink minimum: she should have at least 2 drinks with her at all times.

The Apple TV was full of win. We watched Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog and a bunch of You Tube videos, mostly "Will it Blend?".

Dan made some kind of German pancakes in the morning with a home-made syrup and sauteed apples and pineapples. His cooking skills are becoming legend in my group of friends.

Had a lot of fun in San Francisco

On Tuesday, I met up with Dan in the city after work.

Read more... )

I had a really good time. I got to go to some places I'd been meaning to go to, got a personally guided tour of part of the city and we had really good converstation.

We had walked for almost 6 hours continuously. When I finally got home, I went directly to sleep.
